How many diets have you tried? Like most people who want to lose weight, you probably have a long list of failed diets. Once or twice, you might have lost some weight – and then gained back even more weight than you lost. That was how dieting was for me, too.

Personally, when I was overweight and out of shape I was missing out on more than I wanted to admit. I tried not to think about it, but when I finally did give it thought I realized I was being robbed of my life!

My addiction to Milk Duds and Tootsie Rolls
I had convinced myself that they were little and chewy and I probably burned the calories they contained with all of the chewing they required. Late at night, after my husband had fallen asleep, I would take out my hidden “stash.” Hiding behind a book in bed, I would try to chew quietly.
Almost every day I ate large amounts of pasta and rice. I told myself that there was no, or almost no fat in it, and if I added frozen broccoli I was eating “healthy.” I didn’t worry about the huge portions.
That was a big part of my problem: I had convinced myself that my bad habits weren’t really BAD, they weren’t hurting me.
I was lying to myself.
Illness and Depression
I wanted to lose 50 pounds, but I couldn’t seem to get it together and actually lose the weight. In my mind the mantra repeated, “I want to lose 50 pounds….I want to lose 50 pounds…” All I got was more wanting.
While I was saddled with obesity, I was also suffering from various health issues and depression. I slept long hours at night and never felt well rested. My husband was often kept awake by my snoring and most of my afternoons were spent sleeping on the couch.
Time kept flying by and I just wanted to hide. I was not enjoying my life.
